There are numerous types of beer mugs. Beer steins are from Germany and are usually the most recognizable. Mugs are typically stone, pewter or glass and have a hinged lid with a thumb lever. These were made popular many decades ago. The Germans invented these mugs so they could keep insects or dirt out of there beer while out drinking for the night.

Mugs can be called several different thing, not just beer steins. They are called glasses, vessels and even containers. They usually have a very ornate design carved into the stone ware. The carvings usually depict a scene in Germany or drunken Germans having fun. Whether you like a classic glass or tacky glass there is one out there for you. They come in any variety of sizes and colors to choose from. Usually the pint is the most popular size chosen.

How do you know how to pick the perfect beer mug? Don’t put too much thought into. Even though mugs are beautiful to look at, they can be considered more of a novelty item rather than a actual piece to drink out of. Decide if you prefer stone, pewter, glass or any other material used and go from there. There are so many beautiful designs to choose from. You need to make sure that the thumb lever does work and seems to be of good quality if you purchase the mug to use it. If you do not plan to use it, you should think about getting an antique mug with a history.  Collectible beer steins are just about everywhere if you are looking!
