Because of its usefulness, glass is a prominent material on the vanity, dressing table and/or dresser in a bedroom. Many products found on a vanity table come in glass bottles or jars, and some of these are quite beautiful. These products may be transferred to “plain wrappers” to hide the brand and make the vanity more elegant. For a more unified look, bottles and jars also come in sets.
Whether a set or not, included on a vanity might be: a stand-up or hand mirror, with both the mirror and frame made of glass, cosmetic jars and bottles, perfume bottles, a hair receiver, powder box with lid, atomizers to apply perfume, ring trees, glass boxes for jewelry worn every day, patch boxes (in the old days) and a tray on which to keep these items so cleaning up is easier and the various contents do not leave marks on the furniture.
On a gentleman’s dresser, there should be a coin catcher, perhaps an old, favorite ashtray no longer used for its original purpose, and perhaps a box for cuff links. In the old days, there were boxes for cuffs and collars. These receptacles for the every day items a man needs may be made of other materials, but it is also possible that glass versions exist. Or a glass box to hold plastic collar stays, which are still in use.
Any dresser or dressing table is likely to have family pictures in glass frames, a crystal vase, and/or a glass clock. Also needed in a bedroom are lighting fixtures. Glass based lamps, either made for electricity or converted from gas boudoir lamps, are a nice addition to a vanity or dresser. The shade may be made from glass also.
One final item of glass may be found on a vanity, an aroma diffuser and the essential oils used to make the room smell nice. These may be newly made or vintage glass.
For traveling, there are fitted travel cases with bottles for personal grooming items, including mouthwash, shampoo, etc. New or found as an antique glass collectible, a travel case, man’s or woman’s, would make an interesting addition to a glass collection.
